About
Joanna Simson is a multidisciplinary artist from Stockholm, Sweden. Her collage work is highly intuitive, focusing on composition, texture, colour and form. The images seek to balance abstract with recognisable, organic with non-organic forms as well as randomness with precision.
A recurring theme in the work is ambiguity, a blurring of boundaries where one thing can become another. Human bodies are combined with nature and abstract forms, creating reflective, surreal beings. Joanna is inspired by urbanity, architecture, nature, waste and the materials she uses. New pieces are made from old ones, in an endless cycle of tearing and (re)building.
